Paganini: Complete Works for Mandolin and French Guitar
Carlo Aonzo, mandolin; Sandro Volta, guitar, 2001

The pieces presented on this recording, performed on period instruments (the mandolin, dating from the second half of the 18th century is by Cristiano Nonemacher; the guitar by Gaetano De Grado, 1802) are the only manuscripts for Genoese mandolin available today.

This recording seeks not only to recreate the original sonority of Paganini's compositions, but, thanks to its flexibility, the Genoese mandolin, beyond being the subject of organological studies, posesses interesting possibilities for playing a repertoire originally intended for instruments, according to the use and customs of the time, and in any event, always with respect for admitted performance practice.
